Atlanta, Georgia

Moore Colson, an award-winning accounting, consulting and advisory firm in Atlanta, recently named Partner Jon Powell, CISA, CITP, CPA, as the leader of the firm’s Cybersecurity Practice Area within the Risk Advisory and Compliance Services Practice.

Powell joined Moore Colson as a business assurance associate in 2006, working his way up to partner in 2019. In his expanded role, he will oversee the firm’s cybersecurity risk assessments, IT risk assessments, cybersecurity audits, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing and business resiliency planning, in addition to his current work with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) initiatives, internal audit co-sourcing partnerships and System and Organization Controls (SOC) attestations. Demand from existing clients and the current needs of businesses in Georgia and across the U.S. led the firm to expand its cybersecurity offering into its own practice area. The new full-service cybersecurity offerings provide businesses with solutions to assess their cybersecurity threat landscape and remediate identified risk factors. The customized solutions go beyond the standard cybersecurity questionnaire to analyze and validate a business’s security and endpoint controls against an identified framework.

Powell has extensive experience in IT audit and security, compliance, internal controls, due diligence and general business consulting. He has successfully served clients in the software, healthcare, manufacturing, distribution and service industries. He partners with and develops relationships with his clients to lead projects that can span multiple years. Powell is a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA), where he is on the IT Advisory Council and the AICPA, serving on the CITP Credentialing Board. He is also a board member and actively participates in the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)’s Atlanta Chapter.

“Moore Colson has worked hard to strengthen its cybersecurity offerings as internal and external threats increase exponentially,” noted Powell. “I am incredibly honored to be leading this practice area into the continually evolving future.”

“Throughout his many years at our firm, Jon has consistently shown his dedication to our clients and ensuring their businesses are protected,” said Managing Partner Bert Mills. “With Jon’s leadership of our Cybersecurity Practice Area, we will ensure our service offerings continue to evolve along with market requirements, preparing and protecting businesses against these ever-shifting cyber challenges.”

Moore Colson’s Cybersecurity Practice Area is part of the firm’s Risk Advisory and Compliance Services (RACS) Practice. The RACS Practice currently offers Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) services, system and organization controls (SOC) attestation, cybersecurity services, information technology risk services and internal audit services.
