Moore Colson, an award-winning accounting, consulting and advisory firm in Atlanta, recently announced the hiring of Mark Sphar, CPA, as the firm’s new chief operating officer. Sphar takes over this leadership role from current COO Ken Burrows as he nears retirement at the end of 2023 after 15 years of service at the firm.
Sphar brings more than 20 years of experience helping mid-sized financial, technology and service companies operate with financial confidence and efficiency. At Moore Colson, he will be responsible for the firm’s management reporting, technology, human resources and operational functions.
Before joining Moore Colson in 2023, Sphar served as vice president and financial controller for Surgical Information Systems, transforming the accounting department for the company’s next phase and implementing updates to the internal accounting operations setting up the company for double-digit growth. His prior leadership roles include senior-level executive positions at a cloud-based healthcare software company, an engagement and loyalty SaaS technology company, an online payment processing company, an immersive experience company, and a robotic process automation software company.
Sphar earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Eastern Illinois University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA). He is also a youth group leader at Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell, GA, and a board member of Lassiter High School’s Lacrosse Booster Club.
