Moore Colson, an award-winning accounting, consulting, and advisory firm in Atlanta, hosted an event alongside the Cobb Community Foundation (CCF) on impactful giving on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at its office in the Cumberland area.
The event, A Conversation Around Impactful Giving, discussed the role advisors play in helping their clients find meaningful opportunities to make a difference in their communities. Estate attorneys, CPAs, wealth managers, insurance planners and other advisors are in a unique position to guide their clients and align their vision and passion with their financial goals. During the event, CCF discussed how it can work with advisors’ clients directly to help them find their passion while directing their giving efficiently and effectively. Advisors are also well positioned to assist clients with tax-saving opportunities through donor-advised funds and other strategies. According to the CCF, other ways to give back to the community include scholarship funds, designated funds, field of interest funds, and unrestricted funds, which support general community needs. All funds, other than Donor Advised Funds, can be created as an endowment, providing a gift that lives forever, and can receive Qualified Charitable Distributions from IRAs.
The Cobb Community Foundation (CCF) was established in 1993 as a local fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta and, in 2005, it became a standalone 501(c)(3) organization. CCF manages charitable funds for local individuals, families, for-profit and non-profit organizations who are all connected by their passion for making a difference in Cobb County. Shari Martin, CCF’s president and chief executive officer, joined CCF in 2017 after five years on its board of directors, including one as board chair. Martin’s background of 30 years in the wealth management industry provided a firm foundation for her to lead this fast-growing non-profit organization.
Moore Colson, located in Cobb County since 1996, has been actively engaged with the Cobb Community Foundation for many years. The firm’s former managing partner, Bob Kiser, was the chairman of CCF’s board in 2011 and received the Founder’s Award in 2013 for exemplifying CCF’s work and mission. In 2019, Kiser was named the Visionary Philanthropist of the Year. Fast forward to today, Todd McMullen, partner at Moore Colson, serves as the treasurer on CCF’s board and is the incoming chairman of CCF’s Board of Directors.
“I am honored to follow in Bob’s footsteps and assume the chairman’s role next year,” noted McMullen. “Over the years, the Cobb Community Foundation has helped Moore Colson embrace its focus on the community, and our ongoing relationship is important to Moore Colson’s culture. We look forward to playing a continuous role in helping increase awareness of the many opportunities for businesses, professional advisors and individuals to join CCF in these efforts and make a difference in Cobb County.”
“Moore Colson has been a great partner for CCF, and we look forward to making an even greater impact under Todd’s leadership,” noted Martin. “Building strong relationships with professional advisors provides one more avenue to connect donors with causes that matter, putting us one step closer to realizing our vision of a community fully engaged, meeting needs now and into the future.”
