Moore Colson, an award-winning accounting, consulting and advisory firm in Atlanta, recently announced Partner Jon Powell, CPA/CITP, CISA, was appointed as a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) 2021-2022 Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) Credential Committee.  Powell previously served on an AICPA committee focused on developing new content for the CITP and was the recipient of AICPA’s 2020 Information Management and Technology Assurance (IMTA) Standing Ovation award.

AICPA’s CITP Credential Committee helps to establish and facilitate policies that support the Information Management and Technology Assurance (IMTA) division. The Committee is comprised of 10 industry professionals from around the country who volunteer for a 12-month term to contribute to the profession. Members share their expertise and knowledge to craft comprehensive and robust procedures and methods for IMTA professionals around the United States.

Powell is a Partner in Moore Colson’s Risk Advisory & Compliance Services (RACS) Practice. His responsibilities at Moore Colson include leadership of IT engagements within the RACS practice consisting of Cybersecurity Services, Information Technology Risk Services, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) initiatives, internal audit co-sourcing partnerships, System and Organization Controls (SOC) attestations, and other compliance and consulting engagements. Powell earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree from the University of Georgia. 

In addition to his appointment on the CITP Credential Committee, Powell serves as a board member and is actively involved with the Atlanta Chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). He is a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA), where he is on the IT Advisory Council. Additionally, Powell participates in Terry College alumni events, including Terry Third Thursday, the MIS Advisory Board and the Terry Mentoring Program for current students at the University of Georgia.  He is also a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) where he is actively involved in mentoring professionals in the internal auditing field.
